Alert: 3/16/2007: Quarry rezone in process
Current status of development: Quarry is slated for rezone
When Herons Forever was founded, little development existed next to the colony. That has changed significantly. As of 2007, the colony is almost completely surrounded by business parks, warehouses, manufacturing, and a waste water treatment facility.
Soon, 65 houses will be constructed on the hillside along its northern boundary, a project approved by the City of Renton in 2005 after our successful appeal to require fencing, vegetative buffers, seasonal limits for clearing and grading, and controls for runoff.
The gravel quarry will be the next area to be developed. In January the developer applied for a rezone to Residential (it's currently Heavy Industrial). The approval process requires an amendment to Renton's Comprehensive Plan, which will take place sometime in the summer, according to the planner in charge of the project.
The quarry is the last remaining undeveloped property next to the colony.
The schedule will be posted here when we know the dates.
